First Community Credit Union protects member accounts with 256-bit TLS encryption, multi-factor authentication, real-time fraud monitoring, and zero-liability debit card coverage. Your financial security is not an afterthought — it is the foundation of every system we operate.
Federal NCUA insurance covers deposits up to $250,000 per member per account ownership category. Digital security measures go further, layering technical controls and member education to reduce fraud exposure at every point of contact.
First Community Credit Union secures member accounts through multiple independent layers: 256-bit TLS encryption on all data in transit, multi-factor authentication at login, real-time transaction fraud monitoring with automatic alerts, zero-liability protection on unauthorized debit card charges, and instant card freeze capability through the mobile app. NCUA deposit insurance provides up to $250,000 in federal coverage per account ownership category. Members who enable MFA and account alerts gain the strongest available protection against unauthorized access.
Every byte of member data in transit is encrypted — no exceptions.
First Community Credit Union uses 256-bit TLS (Transport Layer Security) encryption for all connections between members and the online banking platform. This is the same encryption standard used by major financial institutions and government agencies. Data at rest is encrypted using AES-256, the strongest symmetric encryption algorithm commercially available.
Session tokens expire automatically after a period of inactivity. Device fingerprinting detects when an unfamiliar device attempts access and triggers additional verification steps. Login attempts from new locations prompt secondary authentication before account access is granted.
Our systems are audited annually by independent cybersecurity examiners. NCUA examiners review our information security program on a regular examination cycle. First Community Credit Union maintains cybersecurity standards consistent with federal financial regulatory guidance, including the NCUA's Automated Cybersecurity Examination Tool (ACET) framework.
A password alone is not enough — MFA adds a second barrier between your account and unauthorized access.
First Community Credit Union offers three MFA methods. SMS one-time passcodes send a six-digit code to your registered mobile number, valid for 10 minutes. Email OTPs deliver the same six-digit code to your registered email address. Authenticator app integration supports TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) apps such as Google Authenticator or Authy for members who prefer an offline second factor.
On the mobile app, biometric authentication — fingerprint or Face ID — serves as a fast, secure alternative to entering a password at every session. Biometric data never leaves your device. It is processed locally by the operating system and is never transmitted to or stored by First Community Credit Union servers.
Members who have not yet enabled MFA can do so in Account Settings under Security Preferences. Enabling MFA takes under two minutes and is strongly recommended for all members with online banking access.

Unauthorized transactions are flagged before you have to find them yourself.
First Community Credit Union's fraud detection system monitors transactions around the clock. Purchases that deviate from your normal spending patterns — different geographic location, unusually large amount, unfamiliar merchant category — trigger an automatic review. Depending on the risk score, we may send a text alert asking you to confirm the transaction, or temporarily decline it pending your verification.
If unauthorized charges appear on your debit card, the zero-liability policy protects you. Members who report unauthorized charges promptly are not held responsible for those amounts. Dispute a charge by calling (800) 342-8575 or submitting a dispute through secure message in online banking. Provisional credit is typically applied within two business days while the investigation runs.
You can freeze and unfreeze your debit card instantly through the mobile app — no call required. This is the fastest action to take if your card is lost, stolen, or used without your knowledge.
Recognizing fraud attempts is the first line of defense — we provide the tools for the rest.
Phishing attacks impersonate trusted institutions to steal login credentials or financial information. Common tactics include emails with urgent language ("Your account will be suspended"), spoofed sender addresses that resemble official domains, and fake login pages that collect your credentials.
First Community Credit Union will never ask for your full password, card PIN, or Social Security number through email or text message. If you receive a suspicious message claiming to be from us, do not click any links. Forward it to member services at (800) 342-8575 and delete it.
If you believe your identity has been compromised, First Community Credit Union offers identity theft recovery assistance. Member services can place flags on your accounts, issue new card numbers, and connect you with our fraud investigation team. For broader identity theft recovery guidance, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's identity theft guide and the FTC fraud reporting portal at reportfraud.ftc.gov are authoritative federal resources.
Yes. All deposits are federally insured by the NCUA up to $250,000 per member per account ownership category. Joint accounts receive an additional $250,000. IRAs are separately insured up to $250,000. Digital security layers — 256-bit encryption, MFA, and real-time fraud monitoring — protect your account access independently of insurance coverage.
MFA requires a second form of identity verification beyond your password when you log in. Options include SMS one-time passcodes, email codes, authenticator app codes, and biometric verification on the mobile app. Enabling MFA takes under two minutes in Account Settings and significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access even if your password is stolen.
Call (800) 342-8575 immediately. Member services can freeze your card, open a fraud dispute, and begin the investigation. You can also freeze your card instantly in the mobile app under Cards. First Community Credit Union's zero-liability policy means you are not responsible for unauthorized debit card charges reported promptly.
